Quand j’étais au lycée, j’ai regardé une vieille rediffusion d’un Saturday Night Live avec Talking Heads comme invité musical. Je me suis levé, et j’ai regardé, subjugué par leur version de Take Me to the River, et je suis tombé amoureux d’eux.
I was watching an old SNL rerun when I was in high school with Talking Heads as the musical guest. I stood up and watched, transfixed by their version of Take Me to the River and I fell in love with them.
Is this it – The Strokes (from Steve Hamelin)
C’est la première chanson que j’ai joué entièrement à la batterie. Cette chanson pour moi est plus importance que l’album en lui-même car elle a eu un énorme impact sur l’ADN des percussions de notre groupe.
This was the first song I ever played the full way through on drums. This song, and more importantly this album, had the biggest impact on the drumming DNA of our band.
Akron/Family – Raising The Sparks (from Mitch Derosier)
Le fait de voir jouer en live Akron/Family, qui était un jeune groupe à ce moment là, nous a montré qu’il n’y a pas de règles quand il s’agit de l’énergie à déployer sur scène, et la relation qu’on peut avoir avec le public. Et qu’un bassiste n’a pas à jouer dans le noir au fond.
Seeing Akron/Family live really showed us, a young band at the time, that there are no rules when it comes to the you have energy on stage, and the relationship you can have with the audience. And that a bass player doesn’t just have to skulk in the shadows.
Constantines – Shine A Light (from Mitch Derosier)
The Constantines est un groupe qui fait véritablement partie de tous les groupes de Toronto et ses alentours de notre génération. Pour nous, c’était du rock. Dallas, le bassiste, tenait sa basse sur la tête jusqu’à ce qu’il en saigne. Ils avaient la foule dans le creux de leurs mains, et connaissaient chaque choeur et chaque claquement de mains présents sur l’album et les rejouaient en live aussi fort que possible. Ils nous ont motivé à faire comme eux à Toronto.
The Constantines are a band that are genuinely a part of just about every Toronto area band around our age. They were rock music to us. Dallas, the bass player, would hold his bass on his head until it bled. They had the crowd in the palm of their hands, who knew every backup vocal and handclap on the record and would do it live as loud as the band would play. They motivated us to make it in Toronto just like them.
